Raducanu out of Transylvania Open as injury woes continue to plague British teen

It could be the end of the season for Raducanu as a wrist injury takes her out of her next two events

Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu has pulled out of next week’s WTA Transylvania Open due to a wrist injury, the tournament announced on its social media handle.

Raducanu’s name is also no longer on the official entry list for the WTA 1000 Series event in Guadalajara the following week (October 17), which could mean that she may not compete on the tour again in 2022.

The WTA season ends with the WTA Finals, which starts on October 31, with only one other event in Mexico being held in the week prior to that.

However, Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup captain Anne Keothavong will be hoping that the world no 67 does line up for her country in the 12-nations Finals which begins one day after the WTA Finals in Glasgow.

Sadly, Emma Raducanu is forced to withdraw from Transylvania Open due to a wrist injury.

Wrist injury latest setback for Raducanu in difficult 2022 season

The wrist injury is the latest setback for Raducanu, who is playing her first full season on the professional circuit. The Brit dropped out of the top 10 after failing her US Open defence ended in the first round but has managed to climb from No 150 in the rankings prior to her 2021 US Open run to the top 70.

She reached her first WTA semi-final since that US Open run in Korea two weeks ago but was forced to retire in the third set against Jelena Ostapenko due to a glute injury. Raducanu also played in Ostrava this week but lost to Daria Kasatkina in a close two-setter.

Raducanu is currently 17-19 for the season, which includes four retirements mid-matches. The British teen and her fans will be hoping that her experience this year will help her navigate the 2023 season in much better physical shape.
